5 USE OF MASSFLOW FOR PH CONTROL DURING CELL CULTURE (CONTROLLER ONLY)

The pH of a cell culture media can be maintained constant by controlled addition of gaseous carbon dioxide (CO2). The MASSFLOW is ideal for this purpose.

Connect the CO2 gas tubing to the MASSFLOW and to the gas inlet of the bioreactor. Plug the remote control cable of the MASSFLOW to the pump socket (ACID) in the rear side of MINIFOR laboratory-scale bioreactor. Press the REMOTE button on the MASSFLOW and switch the flow regulator on with the ON/OFF button. The pH of the medium will be controlled automatically.

If the actual pH of the medium is much higher than the pre-set value on the MINIFOR, the initial flow of Carbon dioxide may be very high. To prevent this, it is advised to start with a manual control of CO2 addition until both, the actual and pre-set pH values are almost identical. Only then the REMOTE button is pressed and the automatic control is started.
Make sure not to place the tubing containing CO2 gas in water. Water would dissolve CO2 and flow back into the instrument. This could damage MASSFLOW!
